Sustainable Innovation

An open and genre-wide category for those who have an idea or innovation in game development, music, design, fashion or any other creative industry. The focus is on sustainable thinking that aims to meet the current and future challenges. You must be 20 or older in order to be able to compete in this category.


Information about the special prize – Polar Bear Pitching

If your innovation or idea gets to be one of the finalists in The Brewhouse Award, you have a chance to be awarded a special prize. This prize would allow you to represent Sweden in the Polar Bear Pitching competition in Oulo, Finland on March 12th, 2020. In order to compete for this prize, make sure you answer all 25 questions and the following corresponding questions from number 26.

  2. Take your time to fill out the form and describe your idea as thoroughly as you can. What makes your idea unique and attractive? Why? The jury members who will read your contest contribution do not have all the background information that you do; hence they will need a clear description.
  3. When done, please read your answers carefully and make sure you have added all the required information for the jury to make a fair decision in case your contribution makes it to the pitch day on January 13, 2020. Do not hesitate to let an external reviewer read your entry form to see if they understand your description.
  4. We strongly recommend that you attach some images, video clips, links or similar in addition to your descriptive text. This makes it easier for the jury to judge your idea and thereby increases your chances of nomination. You can attach files by choosing “Välj fil” (= “Choose file”).
  5. Read all the conditions carefully before submitting your contest contribution which must be received latest on October 31, 2019.

– Participants may submit any number of contest entries, but only one contest contribution per entry form. Several contestants may submit contributions together.

– The Brewhouse Award assesses ideas and innovations in cultural and creative industries; architecture, design, film, photography, art, cultural heritage, literature, media and marketing communication, fashion, music, food, performing arts, game development, arts and crafts as well as experience-based learning. You do not need a complete business plan in order to participate.

– Entries are handled with confidentiality. The jury and those involved in the management of the contest are bound by confidentiality agreements and thus have a confidentiality obligation.

– All contestants who have submitted a completed entry form will receive feedback via e-mail.

– Participants may have a company/association registered but the idea you compete with may not have started to generate any revenue yet.

– Before The Brewhouse Award gala final on January 31, 2020, the nominated contest entries will be announced. This is done in a press release and with complementary information on and social media on December 16, 2019. This announcement will also reveal the contestants behind the nominated entries.

– Each contestant decides what may be published in connection with the nomination by presenting a name and description of the idea. The competition name and the text submitted under item 25 in the entry form are the text that will be published. Brewhouse has the right to edit the text if needed.

– The contest entries are, in relation to Brewhouse, always the property of the contestant.

– A completed entry form must be submitted no later than 23:59 on October 31, 2019.

– The winner receives a prize in an amount that is invoiced or converted to salary.

– The jury’s decision cannot be appealed against.

– Brewhouse does not accept any responsibilities for the consequences of losing the contest, injuries, failures to submit or late submissions of the entry form. Brewhouse and its web provider do not accept any responsibilities with regards to technical difficulties or any other issues that may affect either the contest or the end result of the competition.


The criteria from Polar Bear Pitching;

The Polar Bear Pitching is looking for startups and individuals who have more than just an idea. More specifically, you need to have:

– At least a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that has been validated and verified

– An innovative product or service targeting the international markets

– A scalable business model

– What it takes to make it when the circumstances get tough. This means that we are looking for individuals with Sisu which is a Finnish word for perseverance and the courage that emerges in the times of great difficulty allowing people to turn the impossible into possible; We are looking for people who are willing to go the extra mile and are ready to step out of their comfort zones.

– A great presentation and excellent communication skills in English enabling them to convey their messages to the public even while standing in an ice hole.
